thunderbird to evolution? no

Seems best to stay with Thunderbird. Important note: Don't download Thunderbird (I couldn't even figure out what to do with the downloaded files), install it through Applications -> Add/Remove

Ubuntu increase screen resolution

Re: Increase Screen Resolution Question
You should simply be able to add the correct resolutions to the "Device" section of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf and then restart X with ctrl+alt+backspace.

dvorak on ubuntu

Moving the data over.

Very bad documentation.

It just tells you to go to Administration » Shared Folders.

Going to terminal (interestingly under Accessories in the main Applications menu) and typing in shares-admin will get your Ubuntu to acknowledge it is not installed, and run you

ubuntu do things as root

'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare: cannot open usershare directory /var/lib/samba/usershares. Error
Permission denied
You do not have permission to create a usershare. Ask you administrator to grant you permissions to create a share.

(Of course, the account I'm logged in as is an administrator account.)

Solution:

I just ran into this also, but I think I know the problem (mostly):

When you first try to share a folder, it offers to install SAMBA. You accept, and it installs SAMBA, and also makes you a member of the group "sambashare". However, until you re-login, your not considered really to be a member of the "sambashare" group. So the real issue here is that you have to log out and back in again before you can share a folder. But a related bug is that the user isn't told about this issue, and instead gets a slightly cryptic error message.
